Reporting on [Name]

As a member of [Name's] Breathwork support team, I am reporting that [Name] does not stick to the commitment from the Breathwork weekend, which is to attend 4 tribe meetings ... between Breathwork and September 30th.

I support [Name] in experiencing any feelings that might arise from this situation, if [Name] is willing to do so.

Thank you for your note.

I do not recall having an agreement with you

to receive personal information about people you are supporting.

I am not clear on your purpose.

You might consider noticing whatever feelings motivate you to report this matter to me.

Too Far Away

Have wound up on your site while researching Richard Donchian to whom you referred in MW. Found my interest piqued by the TTP which seems to me to be an extension of what you believe as detailed in MW. I find myself in accord.

I am a not yet successful trader working on developing my own systems but I have a love of psychology which I studied some years ago, as well as a love of leaning and some skill in helping and encouraging others, children in particular. I am also a persistent SOB.

As a teacher / tutor / counselor / encourager / friend, part of my modus operandi is working on kid's heads so they are better able to master the tasks with which they are confronted with attitudes that are helpful and kind to themselves. I am learning to do this myself with my trading.

Anyways, I am sure there are many demands on your time. I would be grateful to find out how I could continue on my trading/learning journey via TPP ... [Cities] are impractical for me (the tyranny of distance).

I have been to Reno and skied at Heavenly but many moons ago BK (before kids). I am sure it is as beautiful as ever.

Thank you and warm regards,

If you grow tired of using distance as an excuse, you might consider consulting the Tribe Directory for instructions on setting up your own Tribe at a location near you.

TSP Exponential Crossover System

Dear Ed !

Two weeks ago I borrowed two books about programming in C# at the library. The last days I wrote a Console Application in C# that matches your results to the penny and creates the logs in the same format! Maybe I will transform the Console Application into a Windows Forms program and sum up the results of the multiple-run into a table the next days, but I donít know how to program this at the moment (maybe a Data Grid or something like that).

I added you a screenshot from the multiple run.

Do you already know, when you will continue the project?

Thanks for your inspiration!

I am open to having an assistant help me move the work forward.

Donchian Sample system

I am duplicating the Donchian system from the chart server example.

I find discrepancies between my test and the trade log, and also with the equity log.

I think the price data is critical for this test.

I want to make the system test on the same data that you use for the sample system.

I see that you do not publish the price data for the markets used in the historical test, or other markets.

I think it is a good idea to publish the data for the test or other tests in the works.

I am open to you helping me move this work forward.

To Commit or Not to Commit

I was reading this beautiful quotation on commitment, which is attributed to Goethe ... It looks like a great truth ... Yet I feel that the only problem is that we (or I) spend most of our lives deciding whether to commit or not to commit ... Sometimes we (or I) "trend" one way or the other ... in the fabric of life.

Whatever your pattern, including indecision, you likely have some deep commitment to it.

More About Snapshots

Dear Ed,

I just finish reading your book, The Trading Tribe. It
is a fabulous book about personal growth, which I have ever seen.

I see many topics of snapshot in your FAQ, but not in
your book. Could you please give me a full description of snapshot?

I really appreciate your work to help people to grow.

You can find out more about the Snapshot Process by reading through FAQ, by joining a Tribe or by attending a Workshop.

If We Only Had More Money

Hi Ed,

how are you? I am happy to report that I am 100% clear on two of my snapshots.

My relationship with my girlfriend improves dramatically even though a lot of friction arises a long our path. So far we are able to communicate our feelings when things are not going smooth, validate each other and get closer to each other. I am much, much happier with my relationship.

I am also moving towards my body snapshot (I am not working on this before Breathwork, however during Breathwork I experience feelings another tribe member has with a similar snapshot).

I am sticking to my workout program, which is not a challenge before Breathwork. However, my eating behavior shifts dramatically. I almost get sick to my stomach when I smell greasy food, I never overeat anymore and I need much more fruit and vegetable. My coffee consumption now equals 0. As a result I have a lot more energy and feel physically better.

I also notice a lot other drama in my life. My girlfriend points out to me that the only thing I get really upset about is my parents and money. Out of a sudden I realize that growing up, most fights in my family are about money. My dad, my mom and my grandparents always use the excuse "if we only had more money." I have a lot of feelings coming up when I think about this from anger, to feeling ridiculous and feeling pity for my family. I am taking these feelings to the next hot seat tomorrow.

Thank you for your support.

Thank you for sharing your process.

Passing AHA

I appreciate our almost 4 years run.

My trend is no longer to be leader. And no one else desires to take over my Tribe.

I appreciate our removal from the TT Directory.

I love the TTP and continue using it, including visiting FAQ.

As always, I appreciate your support, offering TTP to the world.

Learning to Program

Mr. Seykota -

What recommendations do you have for someone looking to learn programming at the basic level? You may assume that I know nothing about the subject. Some thoughts to begin with are Ė should I pick up a book on C++, C#, Pascal, or some other language (BASIC?) as a place to begin?

I realize my first question is vague, but that is by design Ö Iím hoping that you will offer up as much information and / or advice as possible! I have been given advice by several people but they are not in the trading community, let alone trend followers. My end goals are to be able to backtest mechanical systems and create stand-alone, proprietary programs in .NET.

Thank you in advance for your time and response to my question.

FAQ does not recommend commercial products. See ground rules.

Re: Experiment with Remote Attendance

I commit to attending your IV meeting non-locally on Thursday August 31st at 2PM. Though I may leave early to attend my daughter's annual ice cream social at school.

Regarding your statement

I do not pre-schedule a minute-by-minute agenda for the meetings or attempt to predict "drumming times" in the non-existing future.

I wonder how regular attendees of your meeting book plane tickets if you don't pre-schedule the meetings?

Have you ever considered taking your concept of a non-existent future to the hot seat as an entry point?

See Tribe Directory for instructions for joining a Tribe.

People do not attend IV Tribe meetings unless they can show up on time and stay for the entire meeting.

We do not usually take concepts to the hot seat.

More likely we take in a feeling, like, say, frustration with having to follow rules.

Success Aha

Hi Ed,

I attach the photo evidence of my relationship snapshot during the IV tribe meeting.

I continue to have various insights, the most important one is my issue about success and accomplishment and how I am intimidated by it, interesting how I don't think of it in this way previously or refuse to feel the fear of success.

During some reading I come across a quote by Viktor Frankl and have a major Aha! Feel your feelings, enjoy them and let them guide you!

Don't aim at success - the more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. Then you will live to see that in the long run - in the long run, I say! - success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think of it."

Maintaining Anonymity - part 2

Hi Ed,

After sending you an email a few minutes ago regarding maintaining anonymity I read the FAQ dated Sat 12 Aug 2006, titled "Embarrassment" and realize that just like this person, certain feelings come up within me in regards to wanting to be an anonymous poster to FAQ.

I realize that I don't want to be recognized for fear of what others might think. ( i.e. I want people to like me) I have long standing unresolved issues regarding this and I intend to explore these issues further on the hotseat.

(As I type and think about the above, I feel a tingling, shaking and uneasy sensation in my chest region . . . . . . yes, this issue makes me 'hot'.

Thank you for sharing your process.

TTP Chat Room

Hey Ed,

Have you considered getting a chat room on your site where trading tribe members can meet and discuss ideas around the clock.

Would be happy to help you set it up if you don't have time or whatever ...

You might like to start your own.

Lights Out

Hi Ed,

how are you? In our last tribe meeting I turn off the light by accident before one member takes the hot seat. He says "leave it off". I am willing to experiment and leave it off.

He seems to have one off his most intense hot seats. To me there are two conclusions:

1. He has a k-not that prevents him from experiencing his feelings out in the open and

2. Less light seems to turn down the conscious mind and therefore promote feelings.

What is your opinion?

At IVTT meetings I generally keeps the lights low - still bright enough to see the sender.

You might consider examining your desire for confirmation of your opinions.

TTP membership

I'm a losing day trader. I make all the wrong decisions and do all the wrong things that you would expect a losing trader to do.

I'm not interested in becoming the next great trend follower, though I follow the trends in the stock market. I'm not interested in futures, options, commodities, and bonds. I want to scalp NASDAQ stocks, find one or two stocks that will earn me my days pay, nothing more and nothing less.

Will the work you do in the trading tribe help me and would you accept someone like me into your group?

See Tribe Directory page for information on joining a Tribe.

New Commitment Process
Re: Commitments (Sat, 5 Aug 2006)

I introduce new snapshot commitment process for our tribe in last meeting. Near the end of the meeting during checkout the members state a commitment that they intend to complete for right livelihood, fun, body, and relationship as soon as possible and no later than 24 hours after the meeting ends.

I observe that aha's are strongest soon after a hotseat and weakens significantly before a week passes. I try to time the commitments soon after the aha's that "spawned" it and allow subsequent aha's to "spawn" other commitments or adjustments to commitments. (I contrast this to waiting 2 or more weeks to the next meeting for adjusting)

It is less "routine" and more "in the now" than what we did in my other tribe I recently visited. It also relies on personal responsibility more than accountability to other people.

Hmmm ... I don't see an example of an actual personal commitment in your letter.
